Hotel Glitch

Dearly Beloved—

The air conditioning died at the Marriott for the guest rooms so they’ve moved everyone’s rooms next door to the Sheraton. Same rate as when you made your reservations! Even if you made a reservation under a AAA rate or a government rate–we’re getting them automatically switched over–just let us know if this is the case so we can add you to the list.

The Sheraton’s address is
1400 Main Street
Columbia, SC 29201
(803) 988-1400

We’re still having the reception at the Marriott (the lobby and ballroom A/C is working). Since the rehearsal is Thursday evening, we’ll be hanging out at the hotel on Friday so see arriving guests & family.

Much love

Thursday in Denver….

So we went to Denver for Thursday. In working on Obama’s Disability Policy Committee I (Becca) had credentials for the entire week, but with wedding madness in full swing, we had seriously thought about not going at all. But when I was given tickets for Thursday night to hear Senator Obama’s acceptance speech for both of us, there was no way we could say no. So Thursday morning we got up WAY early and cabbed out to Dulles, hopped a plane, and got to Denver. Getting there was the easiest part. Got to the Convention Center and checked out the Disability Caucus and got to hear Congressman Jim Langevin, Governor Howard Dean speak, and some others speak and then grabbed our creds to head over to Mile High Stadium. Getting from the convention center to the stadium was a cluster. We wanted to get over early to help out our friends at the DNC with setup, but ended up being unable to get on a bus to go over there. Luckily about 2 hours later we got on one, got to Mile High, and got to ride up to the ADA entrance with Tami Duckworth, who in addition to being a true hero, is an amazing member of the disability community. One we finally got to our seats, we got to hear a number of phenomenal speakers, including the man who always makes me speechless, Congressman John Lewis. (I swear, I get panic attacks being within 100 feet of him!)

When Senator Obama took the stage, I was taken back to the first time I met him, back in 2004 when he was first running for Senate. My boss and I went to a fundraiser Senator Kennedy hosted for him in DC. There were only about 50 people there and the minute he started speaking, I was sold. To see how far he’s come in those 4 years, it’s beyond inspiring, because that always sounds so fluffy to me. It’s transcendent. Putting things in perspective this year, with the election, the wedding, etc..2008 is a great time for us. To think that our children are going to grow up believing that they can be president. YES WE CAN.
